Hello i am new to this forum and i also am new to owning a Panga   I have a 23ft Amato Panga that i am currently working on and need some advice on size of motor to hang on the back . The transom is made for an outboard bracket and the boat weights 2300lbs just the hull i did the Coast Guard calculations and it says 230hp that seems a bit big to me. Any info would be very helpful .

I will defer to the experts, but that seems like waaaay too much horsepower.  Have you consulted with a local prop shop?

Not sure a prop guy would know ? The boat did have a 140 hp Johnson on it but the last owner said it was underpowered . I have pictures but they seem to be to large and cant download them on here.

230hp sounds like a lot of motor for that boat.  150 to 175 hp should be plenty unless there is problem with the boat.  Just my opinion.

That's the size motor that I'm thinking . It had a mickey mouse engine bracket on it and it was way to low so the boat had a 140hp 20in shaft motor on it and never performed that well now it will have the correct outboard bracket and a 25in shaft outboard I am thinking 175hp I can always back off the throttle .
